RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE NEW HAVEN CLIMATE AND SUSTAINABILITY FRAMEWORK AS THE PLAN OF THE CITY TO CONFRONT CLIMATE CHANGE AND PROMOTE NEW HAVEN’S SUSTAINABILITY

WHEREAS, the New Haven Climate and Sustainability Framework is intended as a guidance document for the entire City to confront Climate Change and create a sustainable future; and
WHEREAS, the Climate and Sustainability Framework sets the goal for a 55% decrease in carbon emissions in New Haven by 2030 compared to a baseline year of 2001; and
WHEREAS, the Framework was written in conjunction with many diverse community partners and the input of over 100 residents and stakeholders during the public input process; and
WHEREAS, anthropogenic Climate Change is a true and immediate emergency facing the City of New Haven, driving infrastructure and investment costs today; and
WHEREAS, the Climate and Sustainability Framework proposes 97 actions in six major areas: Electric Power, Buildings, Transportation, Materials Management, Land & Infrastructure, and Food; and
WHEREAS, the Framework provides a foundation for New Haven to come together as a community to work with advocates, community groups, residents, businesses, and institutions on a response to Climate Change, ensuring New Haven’s continued sustainability and success in the future;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the New Haven Climate and Sustainability Framework be adopted as the official guidance document of the City of New Haven for its response to the immediate and serious threats of climate change, and ensure the sustainability of New Haven into the future.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the entirety of the New Haven community be called upon to take seriously the threat of climate change and evaluate, plan, and implement the proposed actions of the Climate and Sustainability Framework as appropriate.
