WHEREAS, Clifford Beers Community Care Center ("Clifford Beers") is a nationally recognized provider of trauma-informed mental health care for children, adolescents, and adults; and
WHEREAS, Clifford Beers recently purchased a vacant former school building at 794 Dixwell Avenue New Haven (the "Property") situated within the Newhallville neighborhood of the City of New Haven (the "City") in order to open Connecticut's first trauma-informed community wellness and education center focused on youth and families; and
WHEREAS, the Newhallville community, both in the City and in the Town of Hamden has expressed a strong need for Clifford Beers' services and been instrumental in bringing Clifford Beers into the Newhallville neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, the Property, having been vacant for many years, requires various capital improvements to bring it back into full active use; and
WHEREAS, the rehabilitation and future programming proposed for the Property by Clifford Beers (the "Project") is consistent with their mission in the community and the City's shared goals for revitalization of the Newhallville neighborhood: and
WHEREAS, the City is deeply invested in bringing the Project to fruition; and
WHEREAS, immediate work to the roof systems at the Property would enable some tenants and programs to commence occupancy therein as early as Fall 2024; and
WHEREAS, grant funding from the City will allow Clifford Beers to promptly address the roof systems at the Property; and
WHEREAS, Clifford Beers has committed to continue working closely with the Newhallville community on its plans for future programming at the Property; and
