BODY
WHEREAS, the City of New Haven through its Department of Police Service (NHPD) seeks to enhance and improve its operations to achieve accreditation; and

WHEREAS, state accreditation is a process through which law enforcement agencies demonstrate excellence in management and service delivery by complying with state accreditation standards; and

WHEREAS, the NHPD, per state statute "The Police Accountability Act," is mandated to complete an accreditation process to become an accredited agency; and

WHEREAS, the NHPD is committed to becoming an accredited agency, having begun the process by working on critical tasks including reviewing general orders of the property room and evidence, installing security cameras inside and outside the room, preparing inventory, developing a manual on packaging evidence, building a warehouse at its Training Academy to safely store evidence; and working with ProPhoenix Corporation to help build the CAD/RMS platform to meet the specific needs of the property room; and

WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services offers funding to advance the accreditation process; and

WHEREAS, the NHPD Property and Evidence Unit of the Administrative Division is prepared to use this funding to conduct an audit and use the recommendations of same to imp...
