ORDER OF THE NEW HAVEN BOARD OF ALDERS ACCEPTING THE WOOSTER SQUARE MONUMENT

WHEREAS, in June 2020, a statute of Christopher Columbus was removed Wooster Square Park and Mayor Justin Elicker appointed the Wooster Square Monument Committee (the “Committee”) to design its replacement; and
WHEREAS, following an extensive process, which included a public call for ideas released by the Committee in September 12, 2020, the Committee recommended for public consideration a new monument titled, “Indicando la via al futuro” or “Pointing the way to the future”; and
WHEREAS, on July 13, 2022 the New Haven Historic District Commission voted to approve and issue Certificate of Appropriateness #22-10-CA for the new monument; and
WHEREAS, on September 6, 2022, the New Haven Cultural Affairs Commission voted in favor of the new monument; and
WHEREAS, on October 26, 2022, the Board of Parks Commissioners voted to approve the installation of the new monument in Wooster Square Park in a manner consistent with plans approved by the Historic District Commission and Cultural Affairs Commission.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDERED by the Board of Alders of the City of New Haven that the new monument is hereby accepted by the City of New Haven.
