ORDER OF THE NEW HAVEN BOARD OF ALDERS AUTHORIZING THE BOARD OF PARK COMMISSIONERS TO ACCEPT AN IN-KIND DONATION FROM PROJECT BACKBOARD FOR THE REPAIR AND RESURFACING OF TWO BASKETBALL COURTS AT GOFFE STREET PARK/DEGALE FIELD.

Whereas, the Board of Park Commissioners of the City of New Haven at its April 2022 meeting approved a donation of labor, materials, and supplies from Project Backboard, a non-profit entity, to repair and renovate two basketball courts at Goffe Street Park/DeGale Field; and
Whereas, Project Backboard’s mission is to renovate public basketball courts and install large works of art on the surface in order to strengthen communities, improve park safety, encourage multi-generational plan, and inspire people to think more critically and creatively about their environment; and
Whereas, the design will be created by a local artist and based on community input; and
Whereas, the project entails surface preparation, priming and crack repair prior to the art installations of which all labor, material and supplies will be provided by Project Backboard with no monetary contribution from the City of New Haven; and
Whereas, the City of New Haven through its Parks and Public Works Department will review, inspect, and accept all improvements completed at the park; and
Whereas, both the children and community of Goffe Street Park/DeGale Field will benefit from the repairs and art installation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDERED by the Board of Alders of the City of New Haven that the Board of Park Commissioners accept an in-kind donation from Project Backboard for the repair and resurfacing of two basketball courts at the Goffe Street Park/Degale Field and for the city to execute any necessary documents to receive this gift of improvements.
