WHEREAS, the City of New Haven through its Department of Fire Services is responsible for containing and extinguishing fires for the 20 square miles within the boundaries of the City of New Haven; and

 

WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Assistance to Firefighters Grant offers funds and other resources to communities to aid local departments in fire prevention and response; and

 

WHEREAS, the Fire Department is requesting funds from FEMA for the purchase of 166 SCBA units, an air compressor, a cascade, and a fill station, which will enable the Fire Department to replace antiquated equipment; and

 

WHEREAS, the Fire Department is seeking alternate methods of funding and partnerships to alleviate the burden on the taxpayer and;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Board of Alders of the City of New Haven support efforts to provide and enhance public safety for its firefighters and its community by ensuring that necessary and up-to-date equipment is put in use whenever possible.
