WHEREAS, the City of New Haven through its Department of Fire Services is responsible for containing and extinguishing fires for the 20 square miles within the boundaries of the City of New Haven; and

 

WHEREAS, the FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY (FEMA)/ASSISTANCE TOFIREFIGHTERS GRANT-SUPPLEMENTAL(AFG-S) offers funds and other resources to communities to aid local departments in fire prevention and response; and

 

WHEREAS, the Fire Department is requesting funds from FEMA to reimburse the city for purchases of protective coveralls, respirators, eye protection, and gloves, which has enabled public safety to properly protect themselves during the pandemic; and

 

WHEREAS, the Fire Department is seeking alternate methods of funding and partnerships to alleviate the burden on the taxpayer and;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Board of Alders of the City of New Haven support efforts to provide and enhance public safety for its firefighters and its community by ensuring that necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) is available and funded.
