Whereas, the Grand Avenue Bridge is a critical regional arterial to and from the City and remains as a historic movable swing bridge serving the area for over 120 years; and

Whereas, the Grand Avenue Bridge over Quinnipiac River requires a major rehabilitation. Various mechanical and electrical systems were reported in serious condition based upon a recent in-depth inspection by a CTDOT report; and

Whereas, the original approach spans from 1898 need to be replaced, along with the deck and other repairs. The entire structure will be blast cleaned and painted to preserve the structure for another 30 years; and

Whereas, the City applied for funding under the Connecticut Department of Transportation's Local Bridge Program and received Federal Earmark funding and Surface Transportation Program funding for the rehabilitation of the Grand Avenue Bridge over Quinnipiac River; and

Whereas, the funding for the construction phase of this bridge are being provided by the CTDOT through a Project Authorization Letter; and

Whereas, the rehabilitation of the bridge is critical to the safety of the public utilizing this bridge.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor is authorized to accept funding from the Connecticut Department of Transportation and authorized to sign any associated Project Authorization Letters or other Agreements with the State of Connecticut and any agreements with contractors, subsequent amendments and other documents, any of which may include indemnification provisions and which ...
