TITLE

RESOLUTION OF THE NEW HAVEN BOARD OF ALDERS AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE FROM THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT IN THE AMOUNT OF ONE MILLION ($1,000,000) FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUPPORTING EMPLOYMENT OF NEW HAVEN YOUTH FOR FISCAL YEAR 2025

BODY

WHEREAS the City of New Haven Youth Services Department - Youth@Work Program has been selected by the State of Connecticut (Department of Labor) to receive funds in the amount of $1,000,000.00 for employment opportunities for youth ages 14-21 in the City of New Haven; and,

 

WHEREAS the City of New Haven recognizes that youth with limited resources and opportunities may require summer/year-round employment and mentors in order to reduce the risk of involvement in inappropriate behaviors; and,

 

WHEREAS, the City of New Haven Youth Services Department - Youth@Work Program intends to continue to provide summer and year round employment opportunities for youth in the City of New Haven.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the New Haven Board of Alders:

 

1) The Youth and Recreation Department via the Youth@Work Program be allowed acceptance of funds from the State of Connecticut Department of Labor as herein above described is approved; and

 

2) That the Mayor is authorized to execute said receipt of funding in the total amount of $1,000,000.00 between the contractual period set by the State of Connecticut Department of Labor and any revisions, amendments, or modifications to said contract.

 

3) The Youth and Recreation Department as part of this award be allowed to enter into contract with The Shack of 333 Valley Street An International Organization in the amount of $51,000 for work program specifically for the West Hills/West Rock community of New Haven.
