ORDER TO READ AND FILE THE COMMUNICATION “FROM ALDERS SABIN AND FURLOW SUBMITTING A REQUEST FOR A PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING ASTHMA AND RELATED PUBLIC HEALTH CHALLENGES IN NEW HAVEN TO DISCUSS AND DEVELOP POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS. "

WHEREAS: as New Haven grows, traffic and development patterns may be impacting on our local air quality and asthma rated in the city; and

WHEREAS: the issue of mold in homes across the city contributes to increased asthma rates and harms the health of residents; and

 

WHEREAS: Alders Sabin and Furlow submitted a request for a public hearing regarding asthma and related public health challenges in New Haven to discuss and develop potential solutions; and

 

WHEREAS: the Board of Alders held that public hearing on December 12, 2024, regarding the issue of asthma and related health challenges in the City of New Haven where the City Departments and the public provided testimony regarding asthma rates, causes, and related challenges and solutions; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDERED by the Board of Alders that the communication titled "From Alders Sabin and Furlow submitting a request for a public hearing regarding asthma and related public health challenges in New Haven to discuss and develop potential solutions” be Read and Filed; and

 

BE IT FURTHER ORDERED that a working group be created to further these health improvement efforts and should include but not be limited to staff from the City’s Health Department, LCI, and Office of Climate and Sustainability.
