ORDER OF THE BOARD OF ALDERS OF THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR, CONTROLLER, OR BUDGET DIRECTOR TO AMEND THE CONTRACT WITH THE JUSTICE EDUCATION CENTER: PROJECT LONGEVITY TO EXTEND THE CONTRACT UNTIL SEPTEMBER 30, 2027 FOR AN ADDITIONAL SEVENTY-EIGHT THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED FORTY-EIGHT DOLLARS AND FIFTY CENTS ($78,248.50) TO COVER PROGRAMMATIC COSTS TO CONTINUE SUPPORTING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ACTIVITIES FUNDED UNDER A FEDERAL GRANT AWARD FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS

WHEREAS, the City of New Haven (“the City”) submitted a proposal to the Office of Justice Programs 2023 Community-Based Violence Intervention and Prevention solicitation to expand and enhance the City’s Program for Reintegration, Engagement, Safety, and Support and was awarded two million dollars ($2,000,000) for a three-year period; and
WHEREAS, the City of New Haven Board of Alders (“the Board of Alders”) approved the acceptance of this grant award by passing LM-2023-0320 on August 7, 2023; and
WHEREAS, subsequently, the Board of Alders approved three year agreements with various partners including the Justice Education Center: Project Longevity by passing LM-2023-0655 on February 20, 2024; and
WHEREAS, the Justice Education Center: Project Longevity has been a vital implementation partner in this initiative; and
WHEREAS, the City recently received confirmation from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), that it can extend the grant until September 30, 2027; and
WHEREAS, accordingly, the City is seeking approval to extend the term of the existing contract with the Justice Education Center: Project Longevity through September 30, 2027 to continue partnering with Project Longevity on this initiative; and
WHEREAS, the City is also seeking approval to provide for additional funding in the amount of $78,248.50 to help cover programmatic costs related to this initiative.
