ORDER OF THE NEW HAVEN BOARD OF ALDERS AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH NEW HAVEN COUNTS IN THE AMOUNT OF UP TO SIX HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS ($600,000.00) FOR THE PERIOD OF SEPTEMBER 1, 2026 TO DECEMBER 31, 2026 TO PROVIDE CITYWIDE MATH AND SPORTS PROGRAMMING TO NEW HAVEN PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS UNDER THE NEW HAVEN AFTERSCHOOL INITIATIVE.

WHEREAS, in 2023, the New Haven Board of Alders approved $3 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act pandemic-relief funds to support reading and math improvements among New Haven public school students; and
WHEREAS, the City of New Haven ("the City") remains strongly committed to providing reading and enrichment programming to New Haven public school students; and
WHEREAS, the City and New Haven Counts ("the Contractor") seek to enter into a contract to expand Citywide math and sports programming to New Haven Public School students initially launched through the New Haven Tutoring Initiative; and
WHEREAS, this contract and partnership is essential to continue to build upon the work of the New Haven Tutoring Initiative by coordinating tutors and maintaining program fidelity across schools; and
WHEREAS, on May 26, 2026, the New Haven Board of Alders adopted the City's FY26-27 budget in which $1 million in general funds were allocated to continue and build upon the New Haven tutoring initiative, funds which will be used to cover the cost of the contract.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDERED by the New Haven Board of Alders that the Mayor of the City of New Haven or their designee is hereby authorized to enter into a contract with New Haven Counts in an amount not to exceed $600,000 as well as such additional instruments as may be deemed necessary or expedient to implement the terms of the contract; and
BE IT FURTHER ORDERED by the New Haven Board of Alders that it hereby authorizes the City to draw down in the amount of up to $600,000 from the City's General Funds for the purposes of providing math tu...
