ORDER OF THE BOARD OF ALDERS APPROVING THE CLOSING OF THE SECTION OF EDGEWOOD AVENUE BETWEEN WINTHROP AND SHERMAN AVENUES ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 22nd, 2026, FROM 12:00 NOON UNTIL 5:00 PM TO ALLOW THE “YOUTH ON EDGEWOOD AVENUE BLOCK PARTY” EVENT TO OCCUR. WE ALSO WOULD LIKE THE CORNER OF CHAPEL AND HOTCHKISS STREETS TO BE CLOSED WITH THE EXCEPTION OF EMERGENCY VEHICLES AND RESIDENTS.

WHEREAS: the Code of Ordinances of the City of New Haven requires the approval of the Board of Alders
for the closure of a main artery in the City of New Haven; and
WHEREAS: the Code of Ordinances requires the Alder of the Ward to support the street closing; and
WHEREAS: Chapter 17, Section 17-2.5 of the New Haven Code of Ordinances requires the collection of
signatures of 50% of tenants who will be affected by this street closing; and
WHEREAS: the organizers of this exciting annual event have complied with the Code of Ordinances relating to street closing; and
WHEREAS: the “Youth Day on Edgewood Block Party” is a great neighborhood celebration which brings together the entire Edgewood community to have fun and enjoy activities for residents, families, especially children and teenagers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDERED BY THE Board of Alders that the request for closure of the section of Edgewood Avenue between Winthrop Avenue and Sherman Avenue, and the corner of Chapel Street and Hotchkiss Street on Saturday, August 22nd, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm for the “Youth Day on Edgewood Block Party” is hereby approved.
