RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF ALDERS OF THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN AUTHORIZING THE NEW HAVEN PARKS DEPARTMENT TO ACCEPT A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF UP TO $277,730 FROM THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT'S DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY & ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION TO CREATE AN INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY TRAIL AT EAST ROCK PARK COLLEGE WOODS

WHEREAS, the New Haven Parks Department is committed to ensuring our parks, playgrounds, and green spaces are welcoming, inclusive, and places for all park users to enjoy; and
WHEREAS, the area of East Rock Park totals 425 acres, making it the largest park in the city, with the College Woods section totaling 48 acres; and
WHEREAS, user groups of College Woods at East Rock Park include residents, college students, volunteers with the Friends of East Rock Park, public participants of the ranger-led programs, high school students, daycare and preschool students, and seniors, all of which include people with mobility and neurodivergent disabilities; and
WHEREAS, a 2020 US Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS) shows that New Haven County is home to 23.2% of Connecticut's disabled residents, and that the city's disability demographics are marked by high rates of financial hardship, with 37% of people with disabilities in poverty, and 16.3% of K-12 students in the New Haven School District having a disability.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDERED that the Board of Alders of the City of New Haven authorizes the Mayor to accept a grant award in an amount of up to $277,730 from the State of Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection to help the New Haven Parks Department to create an inclusive community trail at East Rock Park College Woods; and
BE IT FURTHER ORDERED that the Board of Alders authorizes the Mayor to sign any associated state agreements, agreements with contractors, and other documents, any of which may include indemnification provisions and which may have a term of longer than one year, that the Mayor deems desirable or nece...
