WHEREAS, college graduation is an important milestone for students;

WHEREAS, Yale University plans to host its Class Exercise Day on Sunday, May 17th with closures including High Street from Chapel Street to Elm Street from 8:00AM to 4:00PM and College Street from Elm Street to Chapel Street from 8:00AM to 3:00PM;

WHEREAS, Yale University plans to host its Commencement ceremony on Monday, May 18th with closures including College Street from Grove Street to Elm Street, College Street from Elm Street to Chapel Street, and High Street from Chapel Street to Elm Street from 7:00AM to 1:00PM;

WHEREAS, Yale University plans to host its School of Medicine Commencement on Monday, May 18th with road closures including Cedar Street from York Street to Amistad Street, Washington Avenue from Cedar Street to Gold Street and Amistad Street from Cedar Street to Gold Street from 8:30AM to 4:00PM;
WHEREAS, the City through its department/divisions of Emergency Management; Police; Transportation, Traffic and Parking and Chief Administrator's Office have reviewed this plan;

WHEREAS, the traditional rolling closures on Chapel Street and Elm Street will continue to allow for safe crossings of the roadways that remain open;

WHEREAS, working with the University, it has been agreed to promote public safety and to minimize disruptions to downtown traffic the closures of College Street and High Street shall be recommended;

WHEREAS, through the normal permitting process, Yale University will request and fund the posting of No Parking for these roadways.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDERED that the Board of Alders of the City of New Haven hereby approves the closures associated with Yale's Class Day Exercises on...
