ORDER OF THE BOARD OF ALDERS OF THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT TO LEASE VOTING EQUIPMENT FOR THE 2024 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

WHEREAS, the City of New Haven through its Registrars of Voters seeks to enter into a Lease Agreement that provides new, state-of-the-art voting equipment to be utilized by the City for the 2024 presidential election; and,
WHEREAS, the current tabulators in use by the City, provided by the State of Connecticut, have been in use for nearly 20 years and have frequently required service and replacement during the course of the election day; and,
WHEREAS, the State has purchased new machines to replace the current voting machines statewide by summer 2025; and,
WHEREAS, the City has been selected to be one of nine municipalities in the state to utilize the new machines for the 2024 presidential election; and,
WHEREAS, the Registrars of Voters believe that these new machines will greatly improve the efficiency of administering the election as well as the experience of all voters who visit the polls for the 2024 presidential election; and
WHEREAS, the Registrars of Voters believe that these new machines will improve the security of voting while also accommodating for early voting for the 2024 presidential election; and
WHEREAS, the City will pay one dollar to receive the new voting system; and
WHEREAS, the Registrars are grateful to be selected by the State for early use of these machines.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDERED THAT the Board of Alders of the City of New Haven authorizes the Mayor to execute all documents necessary to enter into a one-year Lease Agreement with the State of Connecticut to receive new state-of-the-art voting equipment to be used in the 2024 presidential election.
