RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF ALDERS OF THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION TO THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT, DEPARTMENT OF EMERGENCY SERVICES AND PUBLIC PROTECTION (DESPP), DIVISION OF STATEWIDE EMERGENCY TELECOMMUNICATIONS (DSET), FOR A CAPITAL EXPENSE GRANT NOT TO EXCEED $205,467.68 TO PURCHASE AND INSTALL EQUIPMENT TO UPDATE AND IMPROVE FIXED PUBLIC SAFETY COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT COMMUNICATIONS ASSETS IN SUPPORT OF THE SAFETY OF THE PUBLIC AND THE NEW HAVEN POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS AND TO ACCEPT SUCH FUNDS IF OFFERED AND TO EXECUTE ALL CONTRACTS AND DOCUMENTS AS NECESSARY.

WHEREAS, the City of New Haven, through its Public Safety Communications Department, seeks to promote effective communications in order to maintain public safety; and
WHEREAS, the State of Connecticut, through the Division of Statewide Emergency Telecommunications (DSET) of the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP), has made funds available to cities throughout the state for radio tower and associated equipment for emergency communications centers; and
WHEREAS, the Public Safety Communications Department of the City of New Haven requires equipment upgrades to provide effective emergency communications; and
WHEREAS, the total cost of the project is $3,000,000.00; and
WHEREAS, the State of Connecticut requires a match, and the Public Safety Communications Department of the City of New Haven has agreed to contribute the balance of the cost of the project; and
WHEREAS, the Public Safety Communications Department of the City of New Haven has available Capital funds to cover this project; and
WHEREAS, specific equipment installations at 1 Union Ave, and satellite communications locations throughout the City of New Haven will provide improved and secured radio coverage; and
