WHEREAS, Section 2-376 (A) of the Code of General Ordinances states that "Unless expressly authorized by law or by vote of the Board of Alders, the city shall not be bound by any contract executed after one (1) year from the date thereof. The Board of Alders prior approval is necessary for any city contract that does not go to bid that costs more than one hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($150,000.00); and,

WHEREAS, the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health ("CTDPH") issued a Request for Application (RFA) for the "Implementing a Public Health Approach to Address Community Gun Violence" on March 31, 2025; and,

WHEREAS, CTDPH has a deadline of April 25, 2025 for applicants to submit a letter of intent to apply; and,

WHEREAS, the City of New Haven is planning to publish a letter of intent to publish a request for proposal to enter into contract with the Department of Public Health; and,

WHEREAS, the City is seeking approval to enter into a two-year agreement with an estimated timeframe of September 1, 2025 to June 30, 2027, contingent on Board of Alder approval; and,

WHEREAS, this grant would provide additional funding and capacity for the Office of Violence Prevention, under the Department of Community Resilience, to collaborate with community-based organizations within New Haven on reaching the goal of addressing gun violence through a criminal violence intervention and public health approach.
