WHEREAS: Mrs. Pollock's passion, love, and genuine care for all were admired by many residents in the community because she dedicated herself to helping and giving back to her community in any capacity; and

WHEREAS: Mrs. Geneva Chappell Pollock, was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, on April 28, 1944, to the late Johnny Chappell and late Dorothy Williams Atkinson, she moved to New Haven in 1962 and lived here until her passing, and;

WHEREAS: she gave her life to The Lord at an early age and was a dedicated member, usher, missionary, church nurse, and church mother at Community Baptist Church for over 50 years; and

WHEREAS: Mrs. Pollock attended the University of Massachusetts, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Education Degree; she went on to earn her Masters Degree in Education from Southern Connecticut State University and a sixth-year degree in Advanced Teaching from Sacred Heart University; and

WHEREAS: in 1977, she began her 33-year teaching career as a 7th-grade English teacher at Jackie Robinson Middle School and Urban Youth Middle School before retiring; and

WHEREAS: Mrs. Pollock was more than a teacher, she had something that drew so many people to her; she was kind, nurturing, and loving, had a flair for fashion, especially her hats; cared for her students through tutoring, mentoring, and building relationships outside of the classroom; and

WHEREAS: she was a family historian who loved her family dearly, attended every reunion, and believed in the importance of knowing one's roots; and

WHEREAS: Mrs. Pollock exemplified the true definition of unconditional love and would always say, "Do right by others, and God will bless you;" and
