ORDER OF THE BOARD OF ALDERS OF THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION TO FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY/AFG TO PURCHASE A FIREFIGHTER ACCOUNTABLILITY SYSTEM, FOR $361,092 AND TO ACCEPT SUCH FUNDS IF OFFERED AND TO EXECUTE ALL DOCUMENTS AND CONTRACTS AS NECESSARY.

WHEREAS, the City of New Haven through its Department of Fire Services is responsible for containing and extinguishing fires for the 20 square miles within the boundaries of the City of New Haven; and
WHEREAS, the FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY/AFG offers funds and other resources to communities to aid local departments in fire prevention and response; and
WHEREAS, the Fire Department is requesting funds from FEMA for the purchase of a personal accountability system which will enable command staff to identify the location of their personnel; and
WHEREAS, the Fire Department is seeking alternate methods of funding and partnerships to alleviate the burden on the taxpayer and;
WHEREAS, with funds provided by this FEMA project, the City will benefit from having all firefighters engaged in incidents, individually accounted for to the Incident Commander; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDERED BY the Board of Alders of the City of New Haven that the Mayor of the City of New Haven is to submit an application to the Federal Emergency Management Agency/AFG to purchase a Firefighter Accountability System, for $361,092 and to accept such funds if offered and to execute all documents and contracts as necessary.
