ORDER OF THE NEW HAVEN BOARD OF ALDERS TO APPROVE A ROLLING CLOSURE OF JAMES STREET FROM WOLCOTT STREET TO GRAND AVENUE, FROM 11:00 A.M. TO 1:00 P.M., TO ACCOMMODATE THE FAIR HAVEN DAY PARADE ON MAY 2nd, 2026. AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE PARADE AT FAIR HAVEN SCHOOL, THE CLOSURE OF GRAND AVENUE WILL CONTINUE FROM FERRY STREET TO ATWATER STREET UNTIL 9PM TO ACCOMMODATE THE FESTIVAL.

WHEREAS: the Fair Haven Day event and parade will be held in New Haven on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, the lineup time will be 9:30 a.m.; and
WHEREAS: the closing of James Street, from John S. Martinez School to the corner of Grand Avenue, turning right, and passing the intersections of Lloyd Street, Blatchley Avenue, Poplar Street, and Ferry Street;
and
WHEREAS: upon reaching its endpoint, Fair Haven School, 164 Grand Avenue, a festival will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; and
WHEREAS: based on past attendance, we estimate a total of over two (2) thousand participants during
this much anticipated event in the community; and
WHEREAS: welcoming visitors from across New Haven, as well as surrounding cities and towns; and
WHEREAS: participants will enjoy the festivities, including arts, music, sports, education, and public safety activities, food, beverages, and local merchandise for residents and visitors of all ages to enjoy; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDERED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERS THAT as Alders representing the Fair Haven community, we respectfully request the closure of Grand Avenue from James Street to Atwater Street from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Additionally, the closure of Grand Avenue from Ferry Street to Atwater Street will continue until 9 pm
