RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF ALDERS OF THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN AUTHORIZING THE NEW HAVEN PARKS DEPARTMENT TO ACCEPT A GRANT FROM THE CONNECTICUT DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY & ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION TO MITIGATE CHRONIC FLOODING ISSUES IN AND AROUND EDGEWOOD PARK

WHEREAS, Edgewood Park is in a unique position in the urban environment to serve as large-scale natural infrastructure, providing risk reduction to multiple surrounding neighborhoods now and in the future; and
WHEREAS, the ongoing climate-related challenges are a drain on limited staff resources and without proactive intervention, the anticipated increase in extreme storm events will push the impacts of repeat flooding on this park past the City's management capacity and render park amenities unusable; and
WHEREAS, the outcome of the Edgewood Park Resilience Action Plan will directly benefit the City of New Haven by reducing demands on current limited park staff and ensuring the public continues to have safe, reliable access to park amenities now and in the future; and
WHEREAS, increasing resilience of Edgewood Park provides a direct community benefit by preserving safe, reliable access to greenspace and outdoor recreation, which are associated with improved physical health, mental well-being, and stress reduction.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Alders of the City of New Haven hereby authorizes the Mayor of the City of New Haven to accept a $250,000 grant award from the CT Department of Energy & Environmental Protection and to allow the Parks Department to use the funds to develop a Resilience Action Plan for Edgewood Park to mitigate chronic flooding issues in and around the park; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Board of Alders of the City of New Haven that the Mayor is authorized to sign any associated state agreements, agreements with contractors, and other documents, any of which may include indemnification provisions and which may have a term of longer than one year, that t...
