RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF ALDERS OF THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN AUTHORIZING THE NEW HAVEN PARKS DEPARTMENT TO ACCEPT A GRANT FROM THE CONNECTICUT DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION TO CREATE A SAFER PIER AT THE NORTH POND OF BEAVER PONDS PARK.

WHEREAS, the CT DEEP’s Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education and Statewide Work Crew Program, the New Haven Parks Department, Friends of Beaver Ponds Park, and the Community Placemaking Engagement Network met to discuss priorities, identify projects to improve accessibility, and plan next steps; and
WHEREAS, the collective group was able to identify and prioritize three projects at Beaver Ponds Park for the Statewide Work Crew to conduct with assistance from the New Haven Parks ranger program; and
WHEREAS, through the CT DEEP and New Haven Parks partnership, and the clear need for a safer pier at the north pond of Beaver Ponds Park, CT DEEP has offered the city federal grant funds to replace the current pier with a new one that is safer for fishing instruction of local youth by the Community Placemaking Engagement Network and New Haven Parks.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Alders of the City of New Haven authorizes the Mayor of the City of New Haven to accept up to a $200,000 grant award from the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and for the Parks Department to provide up to $75,000 contribution match to create a safer pier at the north pond of Beaver Ponds Park.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Board of Alders of the City of New Haven that the Mayor of the City of New Haven is authorized to execute any revisions, amendments, or modifications to associated grant agreements, any of which may have a term of longer than one year and that may include indemnification provisions, that the Mayor deems desirable or necessary, including any subsequent amendments to agreements, in order to accept grant funding and carry out the associated grant program activities.
