ORDER OF THE NEW HAVEN BOARD OF ALDERS SUPPORTING AN EVENT RELATED TO A UNION AND COMMUNITY CAMPAIGN AND APPROVING STREET CLOSURES RELATED TO THAT EVENT

WHEREAS Locals 34 and 35 represent nearly 5500 workers at Yale University, one of the largest employers in our region, and good jobs are a foundation for a strong community; and
WHEREAS a fair contract between Locals 34 and 35 and Yale University will benefit New Haven; and
WHEREAS the New Haven Board of Alders has joined with many residents and community organizations calling on Yale to increase its commitment of resources to our city; and
WHEREAS union and community leaders are planning a public march and rally on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, to further the call for Yale to settle fair contracts with Locals 34 and 35 and to make a greater contribution to the City of New Haven; and
WHEREAS this event will require a special event permit for the proposed march and rally; and
WHEREAS the event will require the rolling closure of College Street between Crown and Grove Streets, Grove Street between Prospect Street and Hillhouse Avenue, and Hillhouse Avenue between Grove and Trumbull Streets; and
WHEREAS the event will also require the closure of Hillhouse Avenue between Sachem and Trumbull Streets from 12 to 9 pm to allow for a safe event and time for set up and clean up for the rally;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the New Haven Board of Alders supports the issuance of permits required for this event and approves the related street closures specified above.
