ORDER OF THE BOARD OF ALDERS OF THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN (MAYOR OR CONTROLLER) TO AMEND THE LEASE AGREEMENT (CONTRACT #A10-0102) WITH CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY ACTION, INC, REGARDING THE PROPERTY AT 124 SYLVAN AVENUE, NEW HAVEN, CT

WHEREAS, Section 2-376 (A) of the Code of General Ordinances dictates that “Unless expressly authorized by law or by vote of the Board of Alders, the city shall not be bound by any contract executed after one (1) year from the date thereof”; and

 

WHEREAS, the property located at 124 Sylvan Avenue, New Haven, CT is currently under lease agreement with the Christian Community Action, Inc. (CCA) as previously approved by the Board of Alders in 2013; and

 

WHEREAS, the property is being used as a family shelter, providing vital services to vulnerable families; and

 

WHEREAS, the property is in dire need of capital improvements; and

 

WHEREAS, CCA has the opportunity to apply for a Connecticut Department of Housing grant but the grant requires that the applicant either owns the property or have ten (10) years remaining in their lease; and

 

WHEREAS, an additional option to renew the lease for a third successive term of five years will allow CCA to be eligible to apply for the DOH grant because they currently only have eight (8) years remaining in their lease.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDERED by the Board of Alders of the City of New Haven that the City Mayor or Controller be authorized to amend the lease agreement to include a third option to renew the lease for three successive terms of five years each.
