WHEREAS, Dr. Ann E. Garrett Robinson was born in Greenville, North Carolina, on June 8, 1934, and has been a resident of New Haven since 1967;
WHEREAS, Dr. Robinson's passion, love, and genuine care for all is something that was admired by many residents in the community. She dedicated herself to helping and giving in any capacity to her community;
WHEREAS, in April 1970, she and her family relocated to 406 Dixwell Avenue, making her one of the longest-living residents of the Dixwell neighborhood;
WHEREAS, Dr. Robinson attended North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina, graduating with a Bachelor of Art in Psychology, and she went on to earn her master's degree in clinical psychology from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, her doctorate in education from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida;
WHEREAS, she earned her doctorate with her award-winning dissertation on service and learning called "The Effects of a Community Service-Oriented Curriculum on Alienation, Perceived Student Role and Course Satisfaction in Community College Students," which was translated into several languages;
WHEREAS, she was a pioneer in the City of New Haven, starting in 1967 as the first black certified psychological examiner and as a school psychologist for New Haven Public Schools and the State of Connecticut. She was in the first group of women on the faculty of Yale, servicing as a research assistant at the Yale Child Study Center;
WHEREAS, in the 1970s, she began her legendary teaching career receiving the title of professor emerita for teaching psychology and cultural anthropology at Gateway Community College for 27 years;
