ORDER OF THE NEW HAVEN BOARD OF ALDERS RENAMING THE CORNER OF TEMPLE AND CHAPEL STREET AS "BISHOP SAMUEL LAWRENCE GREEN SR. WAY" FOR APRIL 10 AND APRIL 11, 2025, THE DAYS OF THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE FIRST EPISCOPAL DISTRICT OF THE AFRICAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH.

WHEREAS, the Boston-Hartford District of the New England Annual Conference represents local church congregations of the African Methodist Episcopal Church throughout Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts and is hosting their annual conference at the Omni Hotel in New Haven on April 10th - 11th, 2025; and,

WHEREAS, Right Reverend Bishop Samuel Larence Green Sr. was appointed as the Bishop of the First Episcopal District; and,

WHEREAS, Bishop Green Sr. was consecrated as the 125th bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal church in 2004 and has faithfully previously served as presiding prelates over multiple districts, including South Carolina, Arkansas, and Oklahoma; and,

WHEREAS, Bishop Green Sr. served as the chair of the Board of Trustees for Allen University where he played an instrumental role in reaffirming the university's accreditation and advancing its academic offerings; and,

WHEREAS, under Bishop Green Sr.'s leadership, St. Mark AME Church in Orlando, Florida grew into a thriving ministry that established a daycare facility and preparatory school; and,

WHEREAS, Bishop Green Sr. has promoted and prioritized economic development, education and the spiritual growth of his community throughout his years of service; and,

WHEREAS, Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church (Bethel AME), which is located in New Haven, seeks to recognize Bishop Green's leadership, lifelong service to the church and community, and his appointment as the Bishop of the First Episcopal District by temporarily renaming the corner of Temple and Chapel Street after Bishop Green; and,

WHEREAS, the alders of Ward 7 and Ward 1 are in support of this temporary corner renaming; and,
