RESOLUTION OF THE NEW HAVEN BOARD OF ALDERS AUTHORIZING APPLICATION TO THE NUTMEG NETWORK GRANT TO ALLOW CITY USE OF A STATE-PROVIDED FIBER OPTIC BROADBAND INTERNET NETWORK.

WHEREAS, the program would enable the City to participate in the Nutmeg Network, which is a fiber optic broadband network that connects municipalities throughout Connecticut, similar to the program that connects schools throughout the State (Connecticut Education Network).
WHEREAS, the installation is free and the State would pay for the first year of annual maintenance. The City would absorb all other costs, including bandwidth and data services (provided at a discounted rate by the State).
WHEREAS, participation in this initiative would result in cost savings for the City by enabling the City to utilize a State-provided high speed internet service as opposed to a higher-priced private internet provider.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Board of Alders of the City of New Haven approves and authorizes the application to the State of Connecticut's Office of Policy and Management Nutmeg Network grant.
BE IT FURTHER ORDERED THAT the City must obtain the Board of Alders approval before any grant funds awarded can be utilized.
