ORDER OF THE BOARD OF ALDERS DESIGNATING THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF CONGRESS AVENUE AND WEST STREET AS “BRIAN CLARK CORNER” IN PERPETUITY, FOR HIS COMMITMENT, GREAT CONTRIBUTIONS, AND SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF THE HILL NEIGHBORHOOD AND THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN.

WHEREAS, Mr. Brian Turner Clark was born in Danbury, Connecticut, on October 23, 1958, the son of Walter E. Clark III and Cynthia Perkins Clark; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Clark grew up in Orange, Connecticut, and, following high school, proudly served his country for four years in the United States Navy; and
WHEREAS, after his military service, he dedicated his life to mentorship, athletics, youth development, and community service; and
WHEREAS, his lasting legacy is Ring One Boxing, Connecticut’s oldest continuously operating boxing gym, which has served for many years as a safe, supportive, and meaningful place for young people throughout New Haven; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Clark often used his own resources to keep Ring One Boxing operating and to support the youth, ensuring that the gym remained a place where young people could develop discipline, confidence, character, and opportunity; and
WHEREAS, Ring One Boxing was more than a gym; it was a true community cornerstone that helped shape the lives of countless young people and families throughout New Haven; and
WHEREAS, through his leadership and mentorship, Mr. Clark helped develop multiple national champions while ensuring that Ring One continued its mission of helping area youth grow not only in their sport, but also in their lives and in service to their community; and
WHEREAS, in 2018, Mr. Clark was inducted into the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the sport of boxing and the many athletes he trained, mentored, and encouraged; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Clark was known for purchasing bicycles for youth in the New Haven area who may not otherwise have had the opportunity to own one, and for hosting an annual free backpack and school supply event for area students; and
WHEREAS, he will always be remembered for his kindness, youthful spirit, coaching accomplishments, generosity, and deep commitment to serving, mentoring, and uplifting others;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE ORDERED by the New Haven Board of Alders that, in honor of his commitment, great contributions, and service to the people of the Hill neighborhood and the City of New Haven, the southeast corner of Congress Avenue and West Street is designated as “Brian Clark Corner” in perpetuity, making his legacy in New Haven stand as an official and permanent reminder of service, mentorship, generosity, discipline, kindness, and community love.
BE IT FURTHER ORDERED that the Department of Transportation, Traffic and Parking is hereby directed and authorized to implement this Order.
BE IT EVEN FURTHER ORDERED that a copy of this Order is hereby forwarded to the City/Town Clerk.
