TITLE

ORDER OF THE BOARD OF ALDERS OF THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN IMPLEMENTING OVERHEAD CANOPY LIGHTING IMPROVEMENTS ON ORANGE STREET BETWEEN CENTER STREET AND CROWN STREET.

 

 

BODY

WHEREAS, Town Green Special Services District (“TGSSD”) is a business improvement district located at 900 Chapel Street, 9th Floor, New Haven, CT 06510, and Beacon Properties LLC (“Beacon”) owns that real property located at 90 Crown Street, New Haven CT 06510;

 

WHEREAS, TGSSD has partnered with the City of New Haven (the “City”) to stage multiple “Night Market” events within downtown New Haven, including in the Ninth Square on Orange Street;

 

WHEREAS, TGSSD has partnered with the City and Beacon to create the Orange Street Promenade within the Ninth Square, located on Orange Street between Center Street and Crown Street;

 

WHEREAS, TGSSD, in partnership with Beacon, proposes to make overhead canopy lighting improvements to the street lighting on Orange Street between Center Street and Crown Street, which canopy lighting shall consist of strings of lights attached to cables, crossing over Orange Street approximately twenty-two feet (22’) above the street and anchored to buildings on either side of the street, creating a pleasant ambiance for pedestrians during events (the “Orange Street Lighting Project”);

 

WHEREAS, this proposal shall help to improve the visual appeal of this important urban zone, improve the walkability factor and pedestrian appeal of the Ninth Square, illuminate businesses and storefronts after hours, visually unify this section of Orange Street after dark, create additional lighting for more than twenty (20) events hosted in the Ninth Square per year, and solidify the Ninth Square as its own neighborhood with unique identity; and

 

WHEREAS, TGSSD will cover the entire costs of the Orange Street Lighting Project, by serving as the sole fiduciary agent, retaining insurance, and maintaining it once installed.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDERED that the Orange Street Lighting Project be approved, and that the Mayor be and hereby is authorized to execute and deliver such license agreement or other documentation with respect to the installation of the Orange Street Lighting Project as may be necessary or desirable so as to implement and effect the intent of this Order.
