ORDER OF THE BOARD OF ALDERS OF THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN APPROVING THE CLOSURE OF COLLEGE STREET AND HIGH STREET BETWEEN ELM STREET AND CHAPEL STREET ON AUGUST 17TH, 2025 AND THE CLOSURE OF COLLEGE STREET BETWEEN GROVE AND ELM STREET FROM 6:00AM TO 1:00PM ON MONDAY, AUGUST 18TH, 2025, FOR YALE FIRST YEAR ARRIVAL, THE YALE GRADUATE SCHOOL MATRICULATION AND YALE COLLEGE OPENING ASSEMBLY.

WHEREAS, the Graduate School Matriculation and Opening Assembly are important milestones for students; and,
WHEREAS, August 17th, 2025 is first year arrival and the closures of College Street and High Street between Elm Street and Chapel Street shall allow for the safe crossings of students; and,
WHEREAS, August 18th, 2025 is the Yale Graduate School Matriculation and the Yale College Opening Assembly and the closures of College Street from Grove Street to Elm Street shall allow for the safe crossing of students; and,
WHEREAS, activities are scheduled outdoors at Cross Campus; and,
WHEREAS, the City through its department/divisions of Emergency Management; Police; Transportation, Traffic and Parking and Chief Administrator’s Office have reviewed this activity; and,
WHEREAS, the additional rolling closure of Elm Street from College Street to York Street from 8:00AM to 12:00PM on August 18th and 19th will allow for both the safe crossings of students and roadways to remain open; and,
WHEREAS, working with the University it has been agreed to promote public safety and to minimize disruptions to downtown traffic; and,
WHEREAS, through the normal permitting process, Yale University will request and fund the posting of No Parking for these roadways.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDERED that the Board of Alders of the City of New Haven approves the closure of College Street and High Street between Elm Street and Chapel Street on August 17th, 2025 and the closure of College Street between Grove and Elm Street from 6:00am to 1:00pm on Monday, August 18th, 2025, for Yale first year arrival, the Yale graduate school matriculation and Yale College opening assembly; and,
BE IT FURTHER ORDERED that the rolling closure of Elm Street from College Street to York Street on August 18th and 19th, 2025 is hereby approved.
