ORDER OF THE BOARD OF ALDERS OF THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO APPLY FOR AND ACCEPT PLANNING SUPPORT SERVICES FROM THE LONG ISLAND SOUND RESILIENCE PLANNING SUPPORT PROGRAM TO ASSIST WITH AN UPDATE TO THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN COASTAL PROGRAM.

WHEREAS, the Long Island Sound Resilience Planning Support Program is providing a planning assistance opportunity for municipalities, nonprofits, and community organizations with funding from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) through the Long Island Sound (LIS) Partnership and guidance from the Sustainable and Resilient Communities (SRC) Work Group and dedicated Sustainable and Resilient Communities Extension Professionals (SRC EPs), New York Sea Grant (NYSG) and Connecticut Sea Grant (CTSG); and
WHEREAS, the City of New Haven (the “City”) is located within the Long Island Sound Coastal Boundary and within the Connecticut Coastal Area as defined in C.G.S. 22a-94(a); and
WHEREAS, the City’s Coastal Program was established in 1983 and updated in 2006 in a manner consistent with Connecticut Coastal Management Act and; and
WHEREAS, the Coastal Program is in need of an update in order to achieve consistency with both the City’s recently adopted Plan of Conservation and Development, Vision 2034, and the Connecticut Coastal Management Act and to plan for emerging challenges and opportunities; and
WHEREAS, the City’s Plan of Conservation and Development includes the goal of closely guiding land use in the coastal management district, including waterfront development; and
WHEREAS, the City’s Plan of Conservation and Development recommends updating the City’s Coastal Program as a specific strategy to advance the aforementioned goal; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Alders of the City of New Haven acknowledge that applying for and accepting support from this program would allow City Plan staff to engage a consultant team to assist with updates.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDERED by the Board of Alders of the City of New Haven that the City is authorized to apply for and accept support from the Long Island Sound Resilience Planning Support Program to assist with a necessary update to the City’s Coastal Program.
