ORDER OF THE BOARD OF ALDERS OF THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO PARTICIPATE IN, APPLY FOR, AND ACCEPT ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION MICROGRANTS ADMINISTERED BY THE SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS AND FUNDED BY THE CONNECTICUT DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

WHEREAS, the Connecticut Department of Transportation administers the Active Transportation Microgrant Program to support small-scale initiatives that improve conditions for people walking, biking, and rolling throughout Connecticut; and,
WHEREAS, the Active Transportation Microgrant Program provides grants of up to Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000) per award for eligible non-infrastructure items and activities that advance equitable, safe, accessible, and sustainable active transportation; and,
WHEREAS, eligible items under the program include equipment, materials, and training activities that support active transportation safety and accessibility, including but not limited to bicycle helmets, locks and lights; bicycle maintenance training and materials; bicycle fleets and adaptive bicycles; pedestrian and bicycle safety education materials; safety or high-visibility gear; scooters; bicycle and scooter racks; bike repair kits and stations; and reflective safety equipment; and,
WHEREAS, in the South Central Connecticut region the program is administered through the South Central Regional Council of Governments (“SCRCOG”), which coordinates the application process and distribution of grant funding to eligible municipalities; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDERED THAT the Board of Alders of the City of New Haven authorizes the City to participate in the Active Transportation Microgrant Program administered through the South Central Regional Council of Governments and funded by the Connecticut Department of Transportation; and,
BE IT FURTHER ORDERED THAT the Board of Alders of the City of New Haven authorizes the Mayor, or the Mayor’s designee, to submit one or more applications for such funding and to accept any resulting grant awards in an amount not to exceed Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000) per award and to execute any agreements or documents necessary to receive and administer said funding.
