RESOLUTION OF THE NEW HAVEN BOARD OF ALDERS AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN TO ACCEPT THE AGENCY ON AGING OF SOUTH-CENTRAL CONNECTICUT GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $15,316.00 FOR FY26 TO PROVIDE SWIMMING LESSONS AND WATER AEROBICS FOR NEW HAVEN SENIOR CITIZENS.

WHEREAS, the Agency on Aging of South-Central Connecticut approved a grant in the amount of $15,316.00 for the City of New Haven Elderly Services Department to offer swimming lesson and water aerobics for Fiscal Year 26; and

 

WHEREAS, funds will be used to cover costs associated with staffing including 1 Aquatics Director, 1 Lifeguard and 3 Swim Instructors, SUTA for aquatics staff, and indirect costs assumed by the contractor, but not limited to entertainment, food, rental fees, and transportation; and

 

WHEREAS, the Elderly Services Department is seeking approval from the New Haven Board of Alders so that the Mayor could apply for and accept these funds; and

 

WHEREAS, the staff of the Elderly Services Department will work to ensure senior residents of New Haven are aware of and have access to the Golden Swimmers initiative.

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the New Haven Board of Alders that:

 

1)                     The Elderly Services Department acceptance of funds from the Agency on Aging of South-Central Connecticut as herein above described is approved; and

 

2)                     That the Mayor is authorized to execute said receipt of funding in the total amount of $15,316.00 in the form of a grant to offer a platform that promotes water safety, physical wellness, increases cognition, and recreational engagement for older adults.
